In early February, we were hearing owls hooting around our camp site. There appeared to be 2 different birds. They were vocal night and day. While they were located in one of the pine trees in our site, they also seemed to frequent our neighbors trees also.
We and other campers had different opinions on whether they were really owls or doves. You know was it “coo coo” or “who who?” The majority voted for owls; not just because we had already seen the parks collection of doves but because we eventually saw the actual owls sitting in our tree.
One morning, as we started to take Karma for her walk, we saw what we assumed was a deceased rabbit in our space. On closer inspection, it turned out to be an owlet that had fallen out of the nest. While it had some feathers developing on its wings, most of the body was fluffy down. There was no way it could have flown.
We called the park’s ranger to dispose of the body. He said that due to a lack of food, sometimes a baby bird will be pushed out of the nest by one of the siblings or the parents. We continued to hear the hooting and had numerous sightings of adult owls in and around our site.
Then we again discovered an owlet dead on the ground. It wasn’t much different from the first one we found. Still a fluffy mess though a bit larger. It had half inch talons at the bottom of the long legs. The ranger didn’t think that there were more babies in the nest. So far, no more owlets have hit the dirt here. But the hooting goes on and on!
Below is a picture of the gray owlet that has survived the next and sort of flew down from the nest. The bird is centered in the picture and grey on grey. Look closely! The bird eventually made loft and went back up to the nest. The male parent was nearby later up in a nearby tree.

LGBTQ - Census Data
Erasing the designation for LGBTQ on census data gathering is tantamount to erasing those of us Americans who identify within those categories. Without the data, government agencies and others can erase support for those of us in need, like homeless youth who have been thrown out of their families because of who they are (how many you say, well, the census could tell us how bad a problem that is), elderly who might be victims of abuse because they are still “in the closet” (how many you say, well, the census could tell us how bad a problem that is), and many other examples. If we aren’t counted then we don’t count! You get that right?
It truly saddens me to know that my government doesn’t want to count me for whom I am. Allow me to steal from Sojourner Truth, “ain’t I a citizen and worthy of recognition?” Without statistics, legislatures and congresses can’t support legislation/financial aid to an unknown number of needy. Or, on the plus side, without statistics, we can’t know how well a particular community might be doing compared to other communities. Laws that currently protect LGBTQ rights to marriage, adoption, etc. can be nullified because there are no statistics to support the “need.”
Really, it is a coward’s approach to minimizing people with whom they disagreed. What would Jesus do? What will you do? Please contact your congressional delegations and object to the erasure of LGBTQ designations on the census forms for 2020. I did!

OK, You Guys Get It Together!!!
Hi, I have selected a few of you from the full list to share a copy of my recent email to Tom Perez and Keith Ellison. I am not a registered Democrat though have most of my life leaned that way. These past few months, my activity in the resistance, like yours, has touched with the Democratic Party hence the requests from Perez and Ellison for my feedback. It wasn’t like I was special but 1 of many thousands working to fight the Trump Whitehouse!
Anyway after the success of today, I had a strong opinion of what I thought these men should do to lead the way. So, I wanted to share this with you and encourage you to do something similar. Wherever/whatever you think should be done moving forward needs to be shared with leadership whether that’s the Democrats, MoveOn, ACLU, Planned Parenthood, etc. etc. etc.!
Why don’t you send your own email telling these guys what YOU think they should do going forward. I mean I didn’t even tap on the elections now and moving forward that need to be won by progressives. So, have at it! And, let me know how it goes!
----------------------------------------------------------------
You both asked me what should the Dems do. Well, here’s what I think – immediately start writing op-eds, placing ads in big and small papers/web sites. Get the word out that the Affordable Care Act (do not call it Obama Care) is insuring and working for ?? (fill in the number) millions of Americans!!
Make a run into each and every state that doesn’t already have expanded Medicaid!. Show the people how important that is for coverage of all Americans! We, the resistance, can help but you need to lead this effort! 56% who were against the Republicans’ actions for repeal without a replacement - tap that and work to sell what we already have!!!!! Help seniors understand how the bill wanted to cut contributions (from the very rich) and effectively destroy Medicare coverage for everyone over 65 (me for example)!!
Take every evil in the bill and capitalize on how the ACA positively approaches / solves it!
Capitalize on the Reps failure.
Then put a team around HHS and Secretary Price and foil any attempt he makes to destroy the ACA! FOCUS!

AND - Republican's TrumpCare Key Elements To Be Removed
As if the first email wasn’t enough, read this WonkBlog “The GOP wants to take money from Medicare’s trust fund and give it to the rich” (Washington Post web site, By Max Ehrenfreund).
For those of you too young to impacted by this right now, you will be in your future. This is another way for Congress to decimate Medicare coverage for your parents and grandparents and then yourselves when you reach 65! (https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/wonk/wp/2017/03/23/the-gop-wants-to-take-money-from-medicares-trust-fund-and-give-it-to-the-rich/?hpid=hp_rhp-top-table-main_obamacare-805a%3Ahomepage%2Fstory&utm_term=.597e46f0aa71)
Call you Congressional Representative NOW (using the switchboard is easiest – 202.224.3121 – it walks you through to the right person) ASAP, They plan a vote Friday sometime!!!! Tell them you do not want TrumpCare passed!

Republican's TrumpCare Key Elements To Be Removed
The House Republicans want to remove the essential health benefits (listed below) from the Affordable Care Act. So, what exactly does that mean? Prior to my opportunity to get Medicare health coverage, I set out to find a health insurance policy to cover myself. As a one person company, I didn’t have the luxury of employer coverage or ability to buy a group plan.
What I did get was expensive and covered very little. In fact, I think the policy that I was able to buy covered none of the benefits listed below. My policy allowed me to carry a card that indicated I was insured but it never ever paid anything to cover my medical needs! So, effectively I had what the congressional Republicans want to offer America – nothing. I had to pay for each medical service I needed during that period. Luckily for me, I am in pretty good health and now have Medicare coverage. But millions of Americans are not in good health and/or do not have the Medicare option; maybe even you.
Do not let the Affordable Care Act be effectively destroyed at all of our expense / health care!!!! Call your congressional delegation (representative and senators)!
Essential Health Benefits:
(1) Ambulatory patient services. [outpatient care]
(2) Emergency services.
(3) Hospitalization. [inpatient care]
(4) Maternity and newborn care
(5) Mental health and substance use disorder services, including behavioral health treatment.
(6) Prescription drugs.
(7) Rehabilitative and habilitative services and devices.
(8) Laboratory services
(9) Preventive and wellness services and chronic disease management;
(10) Pediatric services, including oral and vision care.

The President's Proposed Budget
Just in case you have children in your life, I thought YOU might ?enjoy? this video. (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/elmo-fired-funding-cuts_us_58d0ae4be4b0ec9d29deca36?ncid=inblnkushpmg00000009) I’m sure there will be more examples of how the president’s current budget ideas unfairly/unequally splits our tax dollars away from those who might be in need or benefit from current programs, like PBS, “Meals on Wheels”, woman’s healthcare, etc. etc. etc.

The President's VOICE has Historical Origins
Just in case you weren’t sure the president’s VOICE is really about white supremacy. You are probably not surprised then that this is exactly like what Nazis did to Jews in the ’30s and ‘40s. Charity Ideas for The President's Salary
Press Secretary Sean Spicer asked for suggestions as to charities that the president might contribute his annual salary. So, here’s the start of my list can you add ideas?
ACLU, Planned Parenthood, CPJ (Committee to Protect Journalists), “Meals on Wheels”, After School Programs

Sarah Silverman Takes Control of Her Own Money (NSFW)
NSFW or just basically a warning for some of you; because she does tell it like it is!
Some background on why I find this such a great idea!
In the ‘80s, I was audited by the IRS and found to owe more than I have in ready cash. So, as I had been trying to establish a relationship (and had all personal and business accounts) with my ?friendly? neighborhood bank (for my new technical consulting company, Muffler & Associates, Inc. MAI), I approached them for a short term loan. After a few days of review, not only did they say no to the total amount, they indicated that they wouldn’t lend any money. I explained that I wasn’t trying to buy a new car (or Iphone in a 2017 reference) but pay off the IRS. My business plans were solid and I had contracts to support the projected income. But no the bank was adamant – no money for Ruthi!
As a result of a former job, I had an account at a local Federal Credit Union (at the time, membership, i.e., accounts, were restricted to members – which was determined by each Credit Union’s charter). I had a sum total of $5.00 in the account as a place holder. I did not have any of my personal or business accounts with the Credit Union. So, I went across the street to the Credit Union (yeah, like gas stations business with common goals seem to congregate in clusters) and completed a loan application and waited for a response. A few minutes later the loan officer asked me back to her office and we discussed not only what I needed the money for, but my assets, cash on hand, contract values, revenue projects, etc. etc. etc. then she offered me a “signature” loan for approximately half of the IRS bill. FYI, a “signature” loan is a non-secured loan, i.e., if there is a default the bank has no assets to garnish in repayment of the loan. What that really means is that the Credit Union trusted it’s loan officers to do the right thing and assess the credit risk for each customer.
Well, half was better than none, so I signed on for the loan. My next step was to go back to the old bank and close my accounts except for the mortgage and move ALL my money to the Credit Union. Eventually I was able to re-finance my home at the Credit Union which then meant they had all my banking business from that day to today and beyond! So I have a special appreciation of Sarah’s own actions.
Sarah Silverman took control of her own money and sent a f*ck you to Big Oil at the same time. This is on Facebook but like me you don’t need an account to view the video. Just move the “To see more from NowThis on Facebook, log in or create an account.” Box out of the way with the scroll bar on the right. ENJOY!

Ruthi Got Bit - Santee, CA
Ruthi was returning from the laundry with a bag of folded clothes in her arms when the neighbor’s Chihuahua charged out of their site to the sidewalk that separates our 2 campgrounds and bit Ruthi on the ankle. There were 4 puncture wounds and blood. The owner came right over and picked up the dog and started apologizing. Ruthi just kept saying, “Your dog bit me! Your dog bit me!”
So, both the neighbor and Ruthi called the park office to report the dog bite. Then Ruthi went to a local “doc in a box” clinic for wound cleansing, tetanus shot and completing an official report to Animal Control. The owner said that the dog had never done this in the past.
One of the Camp Rangers came by to check with Ruthi’s injury and let her know the camp ground rule is the dog must leave. The wrinkle in this is that the owners had just come in as camphosts and if the dog goes they go too. The park would need to figure out how to fill the empty slot. Ruthi’s response was the park needed to do what it needed to do – it was the Park’s decision not Ruthi’s. But she did remind the ranger that this particular sidewalk is crowded with kids on the week-ends going from camp sites to the playground or pool which are just on the other side of the sites.
Given the choice of either the dog goes or they all do, the camphosts decided that they would leave. So, the park re-arranged other camphosts and filled the vacancy. A few days after they were gone another camphost shared with Ruthi that the dog owners were aware that the dog was unfriendly. When guests came over to their rig, the dog was relegated to a rear room in their rig and not allowed out to socialize with (or bite) house guests. Also the owners had grown children in the San Diego area who would not take the dog either. So, while that dog might not have ever bitten anyone before it was/is a dangerous dog to have in a public area.

#TheIdesOfTrump - 03/15/2017
On March 15th, each of us should mail the president a postcard that publicly expresses our opposition to him. And we, in vast numbers, from all corners of the world, will overwhelm the man with his unpopularity and failure. We will show the media and the politicians what standing with him — and against us — means. And most importantly, we will bury the White House post office in pink slips.
Each of us — every protester from every march, each congress calling citizen, every boycotter, volunteer, donor, and petition signer — if each of us writes even a single postcard and we put them all in the mail on the same day, March 15th, well: you do the math. No alternative fact or Russian translation will explain away our record-breaking, officially-verifiable, warehouse-filling flood of fury. Hank Aaron currently holds the record for fan mail, having received 900,000 pieces in a year. We’re setting a new record: over a million pieces in a day, with not a single nice thing to say. So sharpen your wit, unsheathe your writing implements, and see if your sincerest ill-wishes can pierce the president’s famously thin skin.
Prepare for March 15th, 2017, a day hereafter to be known as #TheIdesOfTrump. Write one postcard. Write a dozen! Take a picture and post it on social media tagged with #TheIdesOfTrump! Spread the word! Everyone on Earth should let the president know how he’s doing. They can’t build a wall high enough to stop the mail.
Then, on March 15th, mail your messages to:
President Donald J. Trump
The White House
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW
Washington, DC 20500
Not my original post but someone else's great idea! Note from Ruthi - The only thing I would add to the postcard is a statement like – “I am a tax paying voting citizen (City, State) and NOT a paid protestor.”

6 things you should know about Trumpcare
It includes massive cuts to Medicaid, the program that provides coverage for millions of low-income Americans.
It defunds Planned Parenthood and eliminates abortion coverage.
It includes a big tax break for insurance companies that pay their CEOs more than $500,000 per year.
A significant portion of the bill is devoted to ensuring lottery winners don’t have access to Medicaid.
It could trigger a “death spiral” in the individual insurance market.
It will result in a lot fewer people having health insurance.

Revised US Medical Plan
The AMA [American Medical Association] has weighed in on Trump's health care package:
The Allergists were in favor of scratching it, but the Dermatologists advised not to make any rash moves.
The Gastroenterologists had sort of a gut feeling about it, but the Neurologists thought the Administration had a lot of nerve.
Meanwhile, Obstetricians felt certain everyone was laboring under a misconception, while the Ophthalmologists considered the idea shortsighted.
Pathologists yelled, "Over my dead body!" while the Pediatricians said, "Oh, grow up!"
The Psychiatrists thought the whole idea was madness,
While the Radiologists could see right through it.
Surgeons decided to wash their hands of the whole thing and the Internists claimed it would indeed be a bitter pill to swallow.
The Plastic Surgeons opined that this proposal would "put a whole new face on the matter."
The Podiatrists thought it was a step forward, but the Urologists were pissed off at the whole idea.
Anesthesiologists thought the whole idea was a gas, and those lofty Cardiologists didn't have the heart to say no.
In the end, the Proctologists won out, leaving the entire decision up to the assholes in Washington.

6 Ways To Fight Political Brain Rot
Sometimes you just want to delete my emails and hope for more comics in the Sunday paper. Well, maybe this will help. After this mornings Twitter Storm, I certainly needed this article! Erosion of the 1st Amendment’s . . .
"right of the people peaceably to assemble." Bloomberg News has an article “The Resistance Will Have All the Proper Permits” that details the evolution of protesting from the ‘60s/’70s to now. Interesting, how much “planning” or “management” is required for successful and peaceful demonstration executions. UPDATE: Isn't It IRONIC
At the end of November 2016, I sent this original email. Well, guess what? Now it comes to light; the vice president’s personal email used while he was governor of Indiana has been hacked!!! Poetic justice????
!
Our Vice-President-elect wants to keep the public from accessing HIS EMAILS. Note, these are not personal emails but those from when he was Governor of Indiana (a public office). Isn’t it IRONIC! (http://m.dailykos.com/stories/1599136)

Yesterday's Day of Empathy (03/01/17)
Below is an email that Ruthi sent to our Alaskan State legislature - Lance Pruitt & Cathy Giessel
I am a tax paying voting citizen of Anchorage, Alaska (since 1971). I am not a paid protestor.
Please introduce/support legislation for criminal justice reform. Reject “law and order” rhetoric. Check this site out for “19 Actual Statistics About America's Prison System.” I thought #1 and #2 disturbing. (https://mic.com/articles/86519/19-actual-statistics-about-america-s-prison-system#.dg7Q7xMJE)
Our country is built upon the Constitution! The right “to peaceably assemble” and “petition the Government” are fundamental elements of the 1st Amendment. Please protect Alaskan citizens’ rights to protest!
Thank you,
Ruthi Muffler
